Our first race weekend back at Crystal Mountain was a great success! After having to cancel our season due to COVID-19 last year all our members were extremely excited to be back in the racecourse. We also want to give a special shoutout to our captains Drew Thomas, Tori Pratt, Liz Randall, Alex Netzley, and Claire Kalajian for all their hard work putting the season together and making this first weekend back lots of fun!
On the racecourse this weekend our team performed outstanding, with several of our new team members giving us upperclassmen a run for our money! In slalom on Saturday our boys swept first through fifth place. Drew Thomas came in first, with Dylan Roussel and Alex Netzley not far behind him. As for our women, Kristen Gresla placed second, Ashley Binette third, and Tori Pratt fourth, with a solid performance from the rest of our girls behind them. After the race on Saturday, we enjoyed some lovely charcuterie provided by the Burk Family and spent the rest of the day/evening skiing at Crystal, walking in the Art Park, and resting up in the condo, among other things. A special thank you to the Sorstokke Family for making and donating a delicious lasagna dinner for us on Saturday night!
On Sunday morning we woke up bright and early and headed to the hill for GS. The weather was cold and windy, so we took quite a few runs warming up before and during the race. Freshman Ashley Binette was our top performing female, placing in second. Mattie Hartle and Hannah Schramski placed fourth and fifth. Once again, our boys swept the podium, with Dylan Roussel in first, Alex Netzley in second, and Calum Schulz in third. After the race we packed up the cars and headed back to Ann Arbor to get ready for the second week of classes ahead. Many cars stopped along the way to have breakfast at a team favorite, 13th Street Café and Market.
We are looking forward to our next race weekend Crystal on January 22nd and 23rd. In the meantime, we will rest up with a free skiing and spa weekend at Mount Bohemia!
