2022: REGIONALS

by Tori Pratt

The University of Michigan Ski and Snowboard team wrapped up our season with a final send to the Upper Peninsula for Regionals! The seniors and qualifying racers departed early on Friday morning and began our adventure North. We took the journey slow and steady through the winter storm. Shoutout to our fantastic drivers for navigating the UP whiteout! After lots of stories, songs, and fun in the car, we all arrived safely at the Applebees in Marquette, Michigan for some pre-race fuel.

Saturday we headed to Marquette Mountain for our slalom race after fueling up with some fabulous breakfast.  Our girls were led by senior captain Tori Pratt in 11th, followed by senior Natalie Aulicino and freshman Sydney Schwalm. Sophomore Dylan Roussel led our boy's team in 8th place overall, followed by senior captain Drew Thomas in 14th, and junior captain Alex Netzley in 23rd! However, gate judges Sarah Bonnet and Conoor Plagens stole the show with their post-race penguin sliding skills. Back at our house we had some amazing enchiladas and spent our evening bonding, resting, and getting some homework done. Thank you to the Schulz family for the breakfast and dinner, it was delicious!

Sunday was another successful and fun day on the hill! The girls came in hot in with Tori Pratt leading the girls in 11th, followed by senior Hannah Schramski in 13th, sophomore Kristen Gresla in 14th, and freshman Ashley Binette in 15th. Our boys were led by Drew Thomas in 12th, followed by Alex Netzley in 15th, and senior Leo Lavigne in 23rd.

Shoutout to our fantastic gatekeepers Connor, Liz, Claire, Sarah, Tom, and Andrew for watching every single racer and for cheering their hearts out! Thank you to all of our MSki families and friends for all of your support throughout this season; we could not have done it without you!
